NASI LEMAK

I have never been a big fan of Malaysian or Indian food in particular. When we first started living here in Kuala Lumpur, I found that food was one of the biggest adjustments I had to make. The unfamiliar flavors, strong spices, and different ways of preparing dishes sometimes made me lose my appetite a little. Coming from a place where I was already used to certain tastes and comfort foods, adapting to a new food culture was not as easy as I expected.

At the beginning, I often found myself missing the food I grew up with. There were moments when I would crave familiar dishes because they reminded me of home, family, and memories that felt comforting. Food is more than just something we eat; it carries emotions, traditions, and a sense of belonging. That is why adjusting to a completely different food culture can sometimes feel like adjusting to a new way of life.

However, as time went by, I slowly learned to accept and appreciate the differences. As people often say, living in a new country teaches you how to adapt, understand, and respect the way others live. I began to realize that every dish has a story behind it — a story about the people, culture, and traditions that created it. What once felt unfamiliar slowly became something interesting to explore.

Although I still have my own preferences and may not always enjoy every dish, I have learned to be more open-minded. I started trying new foods little by little, not because my taste changed overnight, but because I wanted to understand the culture of the place I now call home. Sometimes, experiencing a different cuisine is also a way of connecting with people and seeing the world from their perspective.

Living in Kuala Lumpur has taught me that adapting to a new environment is a journey filled with challenges and discoveries. It has shown me that being comfortable in a new place does not mean everything has to feel the same as before. Instead, it means learning to embrace differences while still holding on to the things that make you who you are.

Looking back, I realize that my relationship with food here is also a reflection of my journey as someone living away from home. I may not have started out loving the food, but I have learned to appreciate the experience, the culture, and the people behind it. Sometimes, the things we struggle with at the beginning become the experiences that teach us the most.

Skywatch Friday

Skywatch Friday

Have you ever looked up at the sky and simply paused for a moment?

No matter how busy life gets, the sky has a way of reminding us to slow down. Every sunrise brings a new beginning. Every sunset reminds us that even the longest day eventually comes to an end. And every cloud, whether dark or bright, eventually passes.

Life is very much the same.

There are days when our skies are clear, and everything seems to fall into place. Then there are seasons filled with gray clouds, uncertainty, and storms that make us wonder when the sunshine will return. But if there's one thing I've learned, it's this: no season lasts forever.

The same sky that carries the storm also carries the rainbow.

As I stood looking up, I was reminded of how small we are compared to God's magnificent creation. Yet despite His greatness, He knows each of us by name. That thought alone brings peace to my heart.

Sometimes we spend so much time looking down at our problems that we forget to look up and remember the One who is in control.

So today, wherever you are and whatever season you're in, take a moment to look at the sky. Breathe deeply. Be grateful for another day, another chance, and another reminder that hope is always above us.

Happy Skywatch Friday!

"The sky is a daily reminder that no matter how yesterday ended, today offers another opportunity to begin again."
